How to view ignored threads?

Right now we can see the list of threads we are following, but can't see those we are ignoring. Since we tend to change our minds often--at least, I do--there has to be a way to see what I am ignoring, should I decide to unignore. Is it implemented somewhere that I can't see it, or just missing?

I haven't tried this yet, but they may have implemented it as a search gambit.

I'm looking for some info on how gambits are implemented here. Stand by please.

Okay, try typing this in the Search box:

is:ignored

That's just a guess on my part, but it might do the trick.

EDIT: Yes! That works for me (unless the ignored thread is in the Sandbox, in which case it isn't found).

EDIT AGAIN: If you need to find an ignored thread in the Sandbox, this works:

is:ignored tag:Sandbox

Dominion this works. I would suggest another icon/link below "Following" for this, along the line of "Ignoring" or similar.

I suspect that's unlikely to happen for the same reason that my suggestion for a "Stickied" link was turned down.

It makes sense to have a "Following" link in the sidebar because users presumably want to access the threads they're following frequently. Whereas a thread you're ignoring is, by definition, not something you want ready access to.

Eventually there will be better documentation for the search gambits, or maybe even a GUI ... so that will probably be sufficient for those rare cases when you want to find a thread you've ignored.

Dominion hmm, I see. I am still with you on the "stickies," or at least on them being really stickies, and stay at top at all the time (really dislike to see them float).

True, but same as with delete, you might change your mind. Right now we can undelete (might be wrong on this), so why not unignore, from the UI? Food for thought, nothing else.

Fastidious It is possible to unignore; just use the search gambit to find the thread, then use the control on it to change the setting back to "Not Following". Whether that deserves to be facilitated by a link is a different matter. Is the extra clutter justifiable if people won't need the feature all that often?

Dominion I understood what you wrote originally (about using search). Right now we have "Tags" and "More," both going to the same place. Now, that's clutter! I do not think it will clutter much at all:

I like your suggestion that "More..." is redundant! That's been bugging me subconsciously for a while now.

Ignored discussions will also show up if you're filtering by a tag. In other words, ignoring a discussion only hides it from the All Discussions view. (Come to think of it, this behaviour may need to change in the future, because the tag filters might be used almost exclusively on larger forums.)

Instead of cluttering up the top of the sidebar with more filters (IMO the cases for sticky, ignoring, mine, etc. are all of similar strength), I think we'll opt for a more flexible approach down the track: gambits for each of these things, an advanced search GUI to automate them, and then the ability to save custom searches and arrange them as filters in the sidebar.

Until I read this thread I had no idea you could ignore threads. After looking for about 5 minutes I finally discovered it lol. Might I suggest adding the Ignore Thread under the Follow button on the main page options for each thread (I checked there twice) as well as in the discussion?
It would be easier to ignore a series of threads that way too.

Excellent idea. It doesn't really make sense to force a user to open a thread they know they want to ignore.

I don't like the idea of ignoring threads. I don't think it should be added to the core, but as an extension. It goes against Rickard Andersson's forum philosphy and what fluxbb and flarum stand for. What's next? Blocking a user's profile? Blocking a post? Blocking a user's pm message? Blocking them from online lists? Blocking them from viewing your profile? Doesn't make any sense and the development team is wasting their precious time on something that other flarum developers should create as extensions.

Also, a forum is about the community. Once you start letting the user block threads and ignore users, the community will fall apart.

If a topic, user, or whatever is following the Forum Guidelines (e.g. no spam, porn, etc) they by all means should have the right to have their topic seen by anyone.

Yes, absolutely. Several of these are very useful features for some communities where certain members have inevitable, unresolvable conflicts. They're not on our roadmap for the time being, but I have no doubt others will create them.

Careful now, you're stepping into dangerous territory. You are being extremely ignorant about the reasons someone may wish to ignore a thread. What if I am just not interested in having the frequent updates to the "Word Association Game" cluttering up my discussion list?

In any case, this thread is to discuss implementation of the feature, not its merits. Any subsequent posts debating the latter will be deleted.

Person A blocks Person B's thread.

Person A doesn't want to get involved in discussion with Person B's thread. That discussion opportunity is gone. When that discussion opportunity is gone guess what? Less activity on the forum. Get into debates, get involved and let the community come to fruition. There is no need to hinder it.
