Sorry to seem like a bit of a pain, but I just saw a post saying FreeFlarum is running beta8.... is beta8 released yet?

Where did you see that? FF runs the latest release which is beta7.1

There will be a pinned topic on this forum when beta8 is released, which has not happened yet.

I must have missed that claim. However it could mean it's running on the latest development version, which is kind of the future beta8. Running the development version is very risky, in particular if you have no idea what you're doing ?

This very forum is also running the development version by the way.

Frink I don't think it's worth it. It's very unstable, you might not be able to update later and right now nearly no extension works with dev-master/beta8 ? (you would have to run the unstable version of the few extensions that do as well)

Running dev-master at this time is only recommended for extension developers to prepare their extensions for the upcoming version.

Please, I urge you, do not install dev-master if you want to actually use the forum. We will not support your Flarum installation. This includes when you want to upgrade to the actual beta 8 or when you encounter issues you are not able to file an adequate (reproducible) report for.

@clarkwinkelmann Ok, thanks for the clarification. I may try running flarum dev-master on a separate domain, so that I don't risk breaking my site.

Did not want to open a new thread, so asking on this discussion, is Beta 7 safe enough to use in prod. I understand the official statement but I think many people here already using it on prod.

Also is there any tentative date for prod release?

matty As mentioned in the docs, they do not recommend using flarum in a production environment. So, being me, I violated this. My website, is live, and powered by flarum (link removed by mod, please follow the advertising guidelines). You can run flarum in a production environment, but there are certain risks you will have to take....

You can check out the flarum roadmap and see if that answers your question. At this time, I believe there is no estimated release date.

matty Many people are using it in a production environment, although it is officially not recommended as with all betas things can go wrong at any time. Provided you keep any and all extensions/modifications to a bare minimum you shouldn't encounter too many issues upgrading to newer versions as they're released.

It is the same philosophy I am taking with my own personal projects.
