I don't feel respected from the staff

I'm so pissed off by doing my best to help out the devlopment and get treated like a number, like a nuisance.
I'm not a native english speaker but do express myself weel enough and do understand when people treat me like a dead weight and think I'm not of any help.

I've got like 10 erased posts for being off topic, or not reading this and not reading that.

The question is simple: what is a forum for you? A place full of rules to follow and strict guidelines to follow or a place where people can express themselves and collaborate like human beings?

I'm not justifying my actions and saying I didn't do wrong, but just give me a break.
Gratitude is not that complicated and treating people without heart will destroy the community and will boost hard coding desires (just saying).

This is annoying. I can understand why mods erase those post. I would do the same.

Imagine that every people try to help with there very own style. In the end we're not going anywhere because of the mess that this will create.

A forum is a place of rules. Even in an oral discussions, there are rules. Do not follow them and see what happens. But please, do not confuse rules, guidelines and freedom of speech. You have the right to say whatever you want but do it properly in the right place.

I, also, am not a native english speaker, but that does not matter.

Just don't get upset with that.

And i don't smoke... bad for your teeth. 😉

It is over moderation. I have seeing it too (as a silent participant, because I have only two or three posts). They try to mask it--sometimes--by using smiles, winks, etc.

If everybody wasn't following some guidelines, it would be a mess. Give some respect to the present work and everything that has been done and then you'll be respected.

For me, respect is something from the inside that you give out even when someone is not respecting you back,

I'm thankful for the work and hours invested in this project but that doesn't make the people behind this projects gods.

HavocK I get it. Rules and guidlines are essentials, no doubt on that. Going off topic is part of human natural communication, the distinction to make is through healthy off topic and unhealthy off topic. Maybe living in a country where it is normal to care for everybody made me a very sensitive person and now I get feelings hurt to fast...

It's true that mods are just doing their job, to keep the forum clean. But I do agree that sometimes the mod(s) are kind of rude when they're moderating (not going to say who). I mean, it's like they're implying "fuck off this is not the place for newbies". Even worse when they're posting sarcasm.

I'm a mod on another forum, and trust me, after the hundred time that you repeat again and again that you please read the rules and post where you have to, you got pretty tired and pissed off because the new users and some of the old doesn't want to make an effort and read the rules.

I'm on the mods side on this one.

ItsukiMinami it's a headache indeed. At times it'd bad enough to where I wish I could ban everyone for their 2nd offense....but as a mod (on several other sites) I don't have that liberty.

This complaint here, is just..meh. Moderation logs...meh. I'd understand if this thread was to complain about something non justifiable per se, but if you really don't take the time to quickly utilize the search function using key words to identify information before you make a post about a certain topic/idea/suggestion etc...then there's no reason to complain.

And it's the internet. Take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt unless it's clearly constructive criticism.

The staff here is doing a fine job at keeping law and order. They are also doing what they can to keep this site user friendly and welcoming to even the newest newbie. Plus they are trying their best to keep the site well organized so that useful and important information is not lost or hidden under piles of off topic discussion.

Please keep in mind that this site is after all primarily a support forum. It is meant to be kept professional. There is a category (tag) where off topic conversation (the other tag) is allowed, but this is a privilege not a right.

The staff has my full support.

Just a quick follow up...

I will not name the individual in particular, but at least 1 person complaining in this thread had their post removed because they took it upon themselves to single out someone for being a non-native English speaker.

Here at Flarum everyone here is welcome and should be made to feel welcome. 🙂

This same person has also taken a negative and perhaps an agressive tone toward people. And having been called out on it, they seem to feel the need to take a negative and aggressive complaint about the staffing here.

So I find it ironic that this individual feels the need to pretend to take the moral high ground. I have full confidence in the staff and believe they are doing the best they can. 🙂

I'll keep my answer short, because some important points have already been made.

Our job as moderators is to keep this forum nice and clean. This is why we have established a set of rules, which we try to enforce very strictly. Please understand that that is necessary to keep things in order in this community, it is never meant to be taken personally.

I admit that it is sometimes hard to find the right tone. And sometimes we don't have enough patience to even try our best. I'm sorry about that, but it happens.

We're trying to do better on that front. And some tools we'll create will help us with that, such as private messages or moderation helpers like canned replies.

Please know that all positive contributions to this community are very much welcomed, respected and valued.

I think the easiest thing to do is to take things with a grain of salt on a forum.

It is very hard to gauge someone's emotion or mood when reading posts. You cannot see their face, expressions, body language, tone of voice, etc. Although you may feel like you are being targeted or not listened to just continue staying positive and looking at the brighter side of things (and continue contributing to Flarum). I have had posts removed without reason but I don't need to have a staff member post about why my post was removed because I already know that reason. I just thought I could get away with it at the time. 😛

On that note, I think I may have just come up with a new suggestion. It would be good to have a little box (just like a new post box) for staff members to write a small note in the post that was removed/hidden. To my knowledge, any removed posts can still be seen by the creator of that post, right? What do you think @Toby and @Franz?

Actually, I was thinking something of the same lines for locked threads too. Perhaps only visible to moderators?

Oh really? Good stuff then Franz. At least all staff (those with the right privileges of course) will be able to make more informed decisions when it comes to banning/general moderating. And even though it serves as a log, it will only be shown in that hidden post. If you don't want to clog up your forum or use logs, just don't leave comments when hiding people's posts. Simple.

You're not wrong at all Cheun. Although I don't care whether there are numerous topics created about the same subject or asking the same thing on my communities; it just doesn't really phase me and I take it on a post by post basis. It is a forum after all and sometimes you just need to lay back on the power trip. If I had a dollar given to me for every answer I gave to people's questions in my job I'd be a millionaire. I am a strong supporter of customer service and it is something I MUST do in my current role whether I like it or not. I can tell people to refer to the website, go here, find out for yourself, do a search on Google then get back to me, etc. Even though it is only a small percentage there are people coming into the forum scene without any prior knowledge or experience. We both had to start there.

I'm not having a dig at you at all of course, they are more general statements. I guess it is just something for people to think about, especially from a staff member's perspective. You want people coming back to your forum after all.
