I installed from scratch this morning and it says it is already 8.1:

damse That's because since it has been tagged on Git, it has been updated on Packagist with the new version so when you run create-project it'll automatically install that version.

Flarum 0.1.0-beta.8.1 Released

This release fixes several issues in Flarum 0.1.0-beta.8 and improves the stability of the beta 8 line. This release includes the following fixes:

InnoDB is now specified as the default table type to prevent SQL errors on foreign keys (thanks to @terabytesoftw)
Setting a meta description in the admin Basics tab will no longer generate an empty tag (thanks to @peopleinside)
If Likes fail to load properly, a discussion page will still function and not crash (thanks to @datitisev)
Pusher is now functional again when creating new discussions (thanks to @datitisev)
Admin users created by installation will have a valid join date (thanks to @Hectorsky)
Searching the text inside posts will now work even with a database prefix (thanks to @PubSub)
php flarum migrate:reset commands will now run without warnings (thanks to @MichaelBelgium)

Upgrading

From Beta 7.x

Please follow the instructions in the Beta 8 release announcement. No additional steps are required – beta 8.1 will automatically be installed.

From Beta 8

To upgrade, run the following commands at the root of your Flarum installation:

composer update
php flarum migrate
php flarum cache:clear

If you are running PHP with an OPCache, you will need to restart the PHP process to clear the cache.

Toby Upgrade from beta 8.0 to beta 8.1 was easy. Everything work great. Now I just need to update the language extension for Bahasa Meaaysia.

that's not a core feature and I don't think there's any plan to make it so anytime soon.

There's still the wordpress login extension, not sure if it has been updated for beta 8 yet.

clarkwinkelmann i hope this can to be consideration for team, i mean if on wordpress use plugin sync with google or facebook account so flarum can use sama data with user when they want login with same facebook or google account (email).

I've seen somebody say they couldn't use mentions in another thread just before so surely I wasn't the only one affected.

EDIT: replying to Ralkage this was on Firefox (possibly not most recent) on Ubuntu. On the same browser it's now working.

Before we upgrade from Beta 7 to Beta 8, is there anything I should tell my friends about Image Upload extension? We are a private community of RC enthusiasts in Japan, and we're using Image Upload (version 0.3.1) to upload images to our server and attach them in our posts. Our community members like it because it's simple. With all due respect and no offense to the developers, we don't use Flagrow Upload and never wanted to use it. Image Upload has been working without problem so we'd like to keep it.

Is there anything we should know or worry about before we make the jump to Beta 8/8.1? Extensions such as Image Upload, Japanese language or anything worth mentioning?

Night It will be best for you to ask these questions in the extension's own discussions. Not everyone uses the extensions you are using, not to mention extensions tend to be updated by their respective creators and not the developers.

matpompili/Flagrow's Image Upload has been replaced by Flagrow Upload. AFAIK, there are no plans to update it. Flagrow Upload works with Beta 8(.1).

It's about upgrading to Beta 8 in general, so I thought I'd ask here. My apologies if it was misplaced or off-topic.

The Japanese language we're using is this one by n04h. It's already updated and compatible to Beta 8 so I guess we don't have to worry about it.

Yes, that's matpompili's Image Upload. It survived several Flarum upgrades and we never had any problem whatsoever with that extension. We always re-enabled all extensions after upgrading and never had any kind of problem with Image Upload. So I'm guessing it will survive Beta 8 too? It uses Markdown so unless there's significant change in Markdown, I'm guessing we can still use it for Beta 8?

No, it will not survive. Unless upgraded, all extensions are broken.

It's disappointing at least for us. Not that I blame you or anyone. It's just that we simply cannot let that one extension go for some reasons. And it seems like there's no way to ask @matpompili to update his extension.
My friends and I have been waiting to upgrade to Beta 8, it seems like we will be using Beta 7 for much longer than we've planned.

I knew your extension for long and it's almost 1:1 fork of @matpompili extension. I appreciate it, but we're using our own servers instead of Imgur to host or store our own images.

And I was so occupied by this extension problem so much I forgot one thing: congratulations to everybody at Flarum for releasing Beta 8! I don't know exactly how long it took, but I think it's time well spent.
