Arnold I spent three days figuring out what the problem is, and it upsets me that no one from the core or fof teams didn't suggest to check mdarea setting, preferring to blame the s9e/text-formatter. Although it was obvious that the problem wasn't in s9e/text-formatter, and the core team knew about the mdarea problem for a long time already.
I understand your disappointment, but allow me to be honest here. We are currently pushing hard to get a stable release out, this demands a lot from each of us (all FoF members are also Flarum team members). We try to provide the best support possible for beta 16 and all previous versions, we try to patch bundled and community extensions ahead of the release as well. And that is just the tip of the iceberg of the things happening ahead of stable. Sometimes requests like yours slip by, that is also why some support requests go unanswered for a while. This is especially the case when requests involve diving deep into a community extension.
We are not intentionally keeping information from you. Not all of us know about the mdarea issue (because we might not have been involved in its discovery, fix or qa process) or didn't consider it because the issue didn't point to it.
I'm glad you discovered the cause though and I'm hoping to do a better job in providing support in similar situations in the future.
