If I were you I'd steer well clear from HostGator, and that's coming from someone who has used them for a number of years. HostGator are owned by a company called Endurance International Group. You only have to do a few Google searches to understand exactly why it's a bad thing.
From my own personal experiences with HostGator ever since EIG bought them out;
Customer service waiting times are disgustingly long (you can be waiting for over 30-40 minutes just to speak to someone on live chat for example)
Prices are low, but you get what you pay for
A few senior staff have since given up and moved on from the company
Don't do much in the way of being on the ball when it comes to updates and using the latest software
These are just a few points I can come up with from the top of my head now. Do a bit of research on them as well as EIG and you'll soon find that an alternative is your best option.
I would personally recommend LiquidWeb. I have only been with them for a couple of months now but their customer service is fantastic and they completely manage their servers using modern and up-to-date software. I'd be happy to provide you with a referral link should you decide to go with LiquidWeb. ?
