first let me thank you for your extension, time and effort!

I just did a quick test and found a "problem." In case one has additional widgets installed, on the categories page there'll be a horizontal scroll bar added, because... well, not enough space. Hope that helps you fine-tune the extension.

Another great addition would be, if there was an option to set the categories page as the default front page, for those who want to stick with that. But that's just a thought. 😉

I've added a setting to remove non-essential widgets from the categories page in the latest version, thanks!

This is actually already supported! You can set this on the Basics page of your admin panel.

I'll have to do some more research, not sure the default tags extension supports this, so I want to make sure it doesn't break anything.

I found the reason, because in this tag with the dropper icon, I deleted the user who posted the latest discussion.
The 3rd option Don't display discussions for top-level tags on the categories page of the setting actually hides the description of tags.

This is actually a problem with Core, I actually have an open PR fixing it! For the meantime though, I've included a temporary workaround in the latest release, that should work as expected now.

Also, there's an issue with the lastPostedDiscussion (reported by LittleGolden in askvortsov1/flarum-categories3). This is a problem in tags, to which I'm planning on submitting a PR shortly.

Hello! This issue also happened to me and I wasn't able to fix that with the settings provided at the moment.
It happens to me every time, so I just made a screenshot of every step and uploaded an album on IMGUR.

Hope this can help other administrators 😀

The newest version v0.1.5 adds an extension settings option to display the categories page in full page width with nav options in a row on top (like the tags page), or side by side (like the discussions page). Additional widgets (like statistics) will show up in the side by side option, but not the full width option.

Additionally, A PR to Flarum/Tags fixing the lastPostedDiscussion issues has been made, so those minor issues should be eliminated in the next release. As it's an issue with the tags extension, you'd get the same issues using the grid view for tags.

Hey, first of all I have to say - good job! This is exactly something a lot of people, including me wished for!

Yalfoosh But I have to wonder - are there any plans of making this work with the follow system? On forums where there is a large and diverse community, people might want to subscribe to multiple categories and perhaps only look at those instead of the whole bunch.

Have you taken a look at https://discuss.flarum.org/d/20525-friendsofflarum-follow-tags? This extension is essentially a retheme for tags, it still uses tags under the surface.

On second glance, I saw your comment on https://discuss.flarum.org/d/20525-friendsofflarum-follow-tags/66. To be honest, if you're going to be displaying tags above a list of discussions, it might be better to do it grid style, so that they take up less room (since we don't want discussions to be pushed down too much). Alternatively, if the follow tags extension is enabled and an admin setting is enabled, a select dropbox (like on the all discussions page to sort) could be displayed which would display tags to which users are subscribed. Just some ideas on my end. Could you perhaps elaborate more as to what you're looking for?
