When will flarum become stable?

When is flarum team planning for its stable release? I want to use it but how to assure it will exist for long. I cannot change my forum software later in my web application.

There have been plenty of other discussions. Also what you consider stable and a viable solution for your purposes defines whether to use Flarum at this point or not. The beta tag remains so that major refactoring can be done without feeling the need of supporting an automatic upgrade path aka "get your hands dirty" is still necessary during this phase. The upcoming beta (5) is a very good example of this, manual actions will be required to make your beta 4 forum work as beta 5.

The Beta 5 release is what I am looking forward to. I have a large community on FB that many have raised their hands to test this forum, but I have no idea if it's going to be easy to update from beta 4 to 5. The idea of it not being a smooth upgrade is what keeps me from installing it. I have looked at Discourse and NodeBB and at the end of the day I am waiting for Flarum. Is there info on how smooth the upgrade will be? I am spoiled with xenforo so my expectations need to be brought down a bit.

I just want to know that if I install another instance of Flarum, is beta 5 going to be a clean wash or easy upgrade path?

AdamMulholland Beta5 will not be an easy upgrade, as they have changed directory for extensions, in between other things. This doesn't mean all upgrades won't be smooth, Flarum is still in beta, so "dramatic" changes are required for the best.

AdamMulholland There should be instructions on how to upgrade in a mostly painless manner.
What that entails will depend on how much can be automated and what can't (and the burden on the dev's to automate it)

Naturally during a upgrade, backups of the flarum directory and the database is wise. That way you're allowed to botch it and try again (and again). ?
I've been running from the first beta and have successfully upgraded each one (backups are amazing)

However, if that feels too risky, please do not install just yet ?

datitisev I absolutely agree that betas are always full of things to fix. I am guessing I might just have to wait longer until Flarum is in a better shape. It's just a matter of when. For now I have xenforo and it's okay.

Kulga I am all about backups so I am not necessarily put off by running 4, but if 5 is around the corner then I am holding on. I know it's speculation and when it's done, it's done. Yesterday I looked and it seemed to say there was 3 open issues and that's pretty close to ready. We'll see though.
