Referring to our previous reply, it is required to upgrade to VPS Quasar ( https://www.namecheap.com/hosting/vps/ ) in order to permanently resolve the issue.

The execution of the command requires more RAM than provided with your package. We can increase the limit only temporarily, to my regret.

It seems that the issue is specific for the Flarum module you have - the default RAM limit for Stellar packages may be not enough for it. ```

You can also install/manage your forum locally with composer. Then upload the composer.json, composer.lock and vendor folder to the server. As long as your local php version matches the remote one you should face no issue and the server would not even need composer.

Oldemar Some of those cost seem a little odd to me (granted I don't use Namecheap) however SSL can be free from LetsEncrypt. Further it would seem that you have two web hosting packages there?

To give you an idea of my own cost for hosting a flarum install this is what mine looks like in comparison:

DigitalOcean VPS - $10/month ($120 a year)
LetsEncrypt SSL - Free
Cloudflare - Free

tankerkiller125 I see that you went for the 2GB RAM, 50GB SSD disk space plan. May I ask how big your community is? How many members do your forums have? Because I'm planning on using DigitialOcean but I'm not sure if I would need the $10 plan maybe the $5 is decent for me so please let me know.

You can always go with their shared hosting too...I switched from a Hetzner VPS to a Namecheap shared hosting account (with their business plan, they give you dedicated resources). I haven’t had any problems or resource issues yet. Composer is also pre-installed as well though it took me a bit to set up a Flarum install, it really wasn’t all that hard.

Edit: Also, if you just want a VPS, Hetzner has some cheap monthly plans as well, it was the reason why I switched from DO to Vultr to them so soon within like a month.

Mark73 If you don't want to spend too much, I'd recommend Hetzner. They have a 2.49 eur/mo plan that gives you 2GB RAM, 20 GB SSD (or the 3.49 eur/mo plan, which gives you 2 vCPU instead of 1 vCPU core).

Mark73 I run way more than just a single Flarum site on that instance (in fact about 10 domains and several sub domain services). It was just a general idea of just how cheap you really can go but still have a good reputable host. Several other people have mentioned other services that might also work.

datitisev Sounds good, though, I heard that Hetzner has only 3 server locations, 2 of them in Germany and one in Finland which means that all of them are in Europe. The question is could that make any speed difference for users operating from the US? Because most of them will be from there, thanks.

Mark73 There is definitely some latency, that's to be expected. How much, not sure. But using a service like Cloudflare and caching assets, it shouldn't matter that much.

Mark73 a little latency but nothing really noticeable when I had Flarum installed on a Hetzner VPS located in Germany. I mean, it would be the same if you had EU members visiting your site which would be hosted in the US so it comes down to your audience really. There is no perfect solution, but, you can use something like ReFlar ReCache which will give your site a bit of a boost 🙂

Edit: I’ve also had crappy Internet for years to which really means I had no more than 100mbps down with like 6 people using the WiFi heavily at a time when I lived with my parents (mostly Netflix...). But even now that I have fiber (or close to fiber speeds) some sites are still slow because it really didn’t make a noticeable difference in my eyes (I’m a speed demon lol VERY impatient) other than less buffering time when I’m watching videos online.

One.com has not VPS. I don't know about BuyVM, Ionis, Contabo or AWS. This is too much complicated.

Flarum almost doesn't work with Stellar Plus and Stellar Business and Namecheap VPS Pulsar with 2GB RAM with their support.

But this works with Namecheap VPS Quasar RAM 6GB and DigitalOcean 2GB RAM and Hetzner 2GB RAM.

Curious, how are the Namecheap support with much higher Quasar 6 GB RAM and DigitalOcean and Hetzner is much lower 2 GB RAM?

Oldemar I've just moved to https://krystal.uk/cloud-hosting/cloud-hosting-features the Ruby package for £11.99pm, I was looking at Namecheap as it always crops up but it is that price for a reason and I think there's no point trying to start a forum and then for it to not run properly, best to get decent enough hosting from the off. 😀

@r4nchy Stellar, Stellar Plus or Stellar Business ?

Namecheap: It looks like the matter with the Composer update is related to the lack of server resources, especially Physical Memory Usage, with your current Stellar package.

The upgrade to Stellar Plus may be helpful in this case, as the Stellar Plus is provided with 2GB of Physical Memory limit, while Stellar is provided with 1GB, however, we are not able to guarantee anything for now and the upgrade to VPS Quasar may be still required to resolve the matter.

i remember I too was getting the composer error, so I moved to the Namecheap support and they helped me install flarum
