wonderbeel I don't think it's harsh at all. Their services are over subscribed, and over sold, which leads to be the 7 p's scenario. I've been an IT infrastructure expert for over 30 years, and these "services" are amongst some of the worst I've ever seen (apart from A2's shared hosting perhaps).
Ultimately, this was my experience - and not a good one either. The server provided to me was so slow, it may as well have been a ZX Spectrum (showing my age here 🙂). What made this already bad situation worse was their complete denial of the situation. Given my experience, I personally found this quite an insult to be told there was nothing wrong when clearly there was.
Whilst this is my opinion of course, it is one that is clearly shared. They score "well" for the most part (in relation to minor usage as you've indicated), but do not fare so well for anything else - see this.
If I were asked to recommend Contabo or share my experiences, then this is still my stance. They are not worth even considering in my view, and do not even take the basic steps of ringfencing over-performing clients, which means everyone else using that same server will suffer because of it.
