Welcome to our newest community update. As some time has passed since the last community update, we want to update you on different things that happened or are happening in the future. In Edition 7 of our community updates 2023, we featured an overview of what's happening next with Flarum. Feel free to skip back to this post in case you are interested. But now, let us move on to our newest update.

(they will be part of Flarum 2.0)

Our team is already working hard on Version 2.0 which will focus on key improvements. You can read more about the development journey in the Staff Diary: v.2.0 Cycle. Some upcoming features are in active development and can already be tested in a BETA capacity for the current Version 1 of Flarum.

📦️ Package Manager

The package Manager project - driven by @SychO - allows you, after the initial installation, to install, remove and update extensions of your Flarum installation without the need to access composer in the command line. You can already see this working now in a BETA capacity. You can test how it improves your day-to-day experience in administrating Flarum. If you want to try this upcoming extension yourself, you can do so using the following command:

👁️ GDPR Data Management

As announced, making Flarum more compatible with regulations, a GDPR data management extension will be integrated into the core with 2.0. You can already test this extension with Version 1.0 of Flarum - also in a BETA capacity. This extension, developed by @luceos and @IanM, allows for export and deletion of data. As it's in BETA it only partially covers all areas as of right now - and the extension will need to be adopted to be compatible. If you want to try it now, you can do so:

composer require blomstra/gdpr:"*@beta"

🕸️ Friends of Flarum - Anti-Spam

@IanM has picked up theBounty on FoF Spamblock to improve handling of Spam in Flarum. He combined two extensions (fof/spamblock and fof/stopforumspam) into one new anti-spam extension. This extension will help your moderation flow to be more effective.

You can test the new extension now: composer require fof/anti-spam:"*@beta"

Searching in Flarum has been subject to many discussions and is one of the big topics on our roadmap for 2.0. As an open-source project, we value our community's feedback, and we have started a public discussion on upcoming changes. Our community is very active in generating newProposals to improve Flarum. Also, there are many updates to existingExtensions, and new ones are created. Package Manager feedback and question:

As suggested I'm using with the Database Queue extension in the Package Manager.

Using that produce a long list of queue history that is showed without the possibility to be clean.

I need access directly to phpmyadmin to remove all this different row generated in different days?
There is no UI button to clean that, no auto clean schedule?

Also.. after the queue task is done I need to refresh the Package Manager page from the browser because task done never refresh the page to show the available update.

A button to refresh the queue list exist but no button to refresh the page is present. Maybe has sense refresh the page automatically when a task is done or show a message that alert the page must be refreshed to see the task results

Love the new website!
Small suggestion from me though;
Looking at extensions for example (https://next.flarum.org/extension/hikarilan/flarum-passkey-login) the screenshots look out of place and messy?

My suggestion would be under the 'version' box on the right add another box under it titled screenshot where you can click the screenshots and they open in a modal?

I feel it would just tidy it and tighten it up, thats just a suggestion though and my personal thoughts!
Love the new design 🙂

I have a suggestion for the main site and the extensions in particular. I don't know if this is the right place.

But I think there should be some mandatory requirements for the "Store" of Flarum extensions. For example there are extensions with no description, no screenshots... this becomes a terrible user experience for any forum administrator.

That is a very good idea, but right now we have little control over that because anyone can publish any extension through packagist.org. This might in the future at some point.

It seems that this v2 is going to be an extremely positive game changer as extensions could be managed from the package manager itself. I have few questions on this:

1)Managing from Package Manager does it mean the option to manage would be visible and accessed from the administrative page itself?

2) Do the Package Manager would be also used to update the entire versions of Flarum Script?

Yes, it's available within the administrative area of Flarum.

Yes, package manger can update both extensions as well as core.

Hello! I'm very excited about the v2 of flarum 😃
I have some feedback about the new website's homepage if you're interested. These are mainly accessibility issues.

there are two h1 on the page
there is no way of opening the submenus using keyboard navigation
the login, register, discover buttons have no focus style (outline is set to transparent)
the contrast between background and text color of the 3 links "benefits", "demo" and "install" is too low because of the reduced opacity
the intro image alternative text should be empty or more descriptive than "Example Flarum community"
the text/baclground contrast is quite poor (medium gray on light gray)
some titles do not respect the logical order of h1 -> h2 -> h3 -> h4... and skip one or two levels
the images in "Use cases for Flarum" should have empty alt because it is a repetition of the text below them
the text/background contrast of the footer link description is very low

This is what I noticed while quickly looking at the page on a laptop with Fedora 39 and firefox 120.0.1.
I would happily provide more informations if needed!

KARAM_SIDHU we will post regular updates on v2 in our Dev Diary (https://discuss.flarum.org/d/32901-staff-diary-v20-cycle/). Quite a lot has already been completed, but some features are still being developed. It's too early to publicly announce a release date.

GreXXL Good to hear. Can't wait for the release over the ease it would provide. Primarily for those with less technical knowledge on handling updates and customisation via root. As well as for me, Due to the the limitations on shared hosting without Root/SSH which require all request to be sent to the Web Host to be implemented.
