Upgrading from Beta 2

jordanjay29 the upgrade instructions seem a bit complicated for me...i will sure give it a try but it would be nice if you can translate that guide to a more idiot-friendly version if possible

[deleted] That's best left up to other members here, I'd rather not get into the habit of supporting a Beta 2 version at all. To be blunt, if those instructions are too complicated, you may be better off waiting until Flarum has exited beta.

jordanjay29 i just have a couple of simple questions about the update process....in the instructions where it says "install flarum beta 3" what should I input where it asks for the database info?

meetdilip Posted the link to each release to upgrade to each subsequent version.

However, you may have issue as they ended up becoming a general "composer update".
My advice would be to get to a composer version, run composer update and complete the instructed database upgrade (hoping for the best). If that doesn't work, looking for the instructions and methodically following them.

I would heavily recommend making reliable backups of the database every step of the way while you do this.

Feel free to visit this thread for a "Flarum Export / Import" feature and comment. It may be a method of making upgrades more "safe" or easier to manage.

[deleted] No, please continue to use this thread for this topic as Kulga instructed. There's no need to start a new one for every new aspect of the issue. It will not change how quickly a response comes, and will hamper support as the background information is contained in this topic.

Also, please note that since your request is for an older version of Flarum, we may or may not be able to resolve it to your satisfaction.

jordanjay29 please dont limit the support i get to the version of flarum i am running ...cuz that's exactly why i want to upgrade to the latest version....also I deleted this topic for a purpose its cuz i wanted to start a fresh new topic to avoid confusion, so if you dont mind, please lock this topic and unlock the other one since I don't see any harm in doing so.

[deleted] No one has limited your support. I'm cautioning you, as I have every step along the way, that data from an outdated version of Flarum might not be recoverable. This is part of the reason we caution not to use Flarum in production, because we cannot guarantee that you won't lose data as part of the beta process.

As for the moderation, no. Both myself and Kulga have told you to use this topic, after you created multiples for this same issue. The decision stands.

jordanjay29 the issue here is that people might just look at the main post in this topic....so thats why i prefer having a new one for each separate issue....and i know that it might not be possible to transfer the data but in the topic u locked, there's an error so all u have to do is check the error and tell me what i did wrong, and bam, problem fixed.

[deleted] did you install a new forum with the same database credentials as the old forum before starting this whole upgrade procedure on the old forum?

Also I'd like to point out that we have no obligation to assist you with getting an (obviously very) outdated forum updated. The efforts any of the staff member take is because they are dedicated to help anyone struggling with this amazing product and please undertand they do so in their free time of their own volition next to their day-to-day business.

luceos So what I basically did, i created a new flarum installation in a separate folder and i created a new db and registered it with my new flarum forum, but then to get my data back, I deleted all the content on the new db and took a backup of the old db (which the old flarum is using) and I imported that backup to my new db....so then i ran the queries in the topic (v0.1.0-beta.3 released) in my new db then i went to myforum.com/admin and typed in my db pass to upgrade (as stated in the upgrading tutorial in the v0.1.0-beta.3 released topic) and when i click on upgrade, it gave me the error on the pics shown above. So may i kindly request you to please have a look at the error and at the screenshot of my db and see what's wrong or of there's anything missing or not there in the db?

And for the second issue, i have been reminded that many times and i do know that no one is forced to help me and that you are all just volunteering, but what my point is, is that most of the responses keep saying (Youre running an old version so we won't help you) but lets say beta 3 was the latest and i had beta 2, im pretty sure your answer would've been completely different then....so what i want you to do is imagine as if beta 3 was the latest and try help me with my issue as if beta 4 and 5 never existed (again, im not forcing you into doing so, so dont take me wrong but i would highly appreciate it if you at least try resolve my issue) .
