SMTP email doesn't work for me

I use Tencent Mail for Enterprise.

Officially, the SMTP setting would be like this, I replaced my real domain with mydomain.com
Drive: smtp
Host: hwsmtp.exmail.qq.com
Port: 465
Encryption: ssl
SMTP Account Username: noreply@mydomain.com
SMTP Account Password: mypassword
Sender Address: noreply@mydomain.com

However, no matter I register on my site or use the forget password, it kept showing me the message

Kurtis if this error is always the same, then your smtp-server hostname is wrong, or your flarum installation doesn't have an access to it. "Connection refused" is a TCP error.

deseven I doubled checked, there is an other smtp-server which is smtp.exmail.qq.com, and I tried it, the same result. So I think it might be something to do with my Godaddy Host, I install Flarum on it. And I went to my domain DNS zone to set CName to be

Point to: smtp.exmail.qq.com
Hoping that 1 hour later it will work

I think, the cause may be the relationship of zend-stratigilty version.

Please try the command with composer.

composer require zendframework/zend-stratigility 1.2.1

After it

php flarum cache:clear

Correct, this appears to be a server issue, and not something related to Flarum. You may need to contact GoDaddy for support in getting the SMTP set up with the proper credentials. Either something in their settings are preventing your connection, or something SMTP-side with QQ email isn't accepting the connection.

If you're using cPanel your email accounts should come with details on setting up on Outlook. You should try to see if it works in Outlook and then proceed to input the details in Flarum.

If all else fails you may consider other SMTP alternatives like Gmail or Sendgrid.

nextnext1 most commonly this can be fixed by using a different mail port. However to give a better indication I guess you'd need to open up your own support discussion and provide your current configuration (without credentials).

Please note that bumping each and every thread that seems to hold the same issue you have is not helping get yours solved.

Just wanted to post a fix that worked for me 🙂

In my case, I was using AWS for my email. AWS lets you use port 25, 587 or 2587. With port 25, I was getting this error:

flarum.ERROR: Swift_TransportException: Connection could not be established with host email-smtp.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com :stream_socket_client(): unable to connect to tcp://...............amazonaws.com:25 (Connection timed out) in /........./vendor/swiftmailer/swiftmailer/lib/classes/Swift/Transport/StreamBuffer.php:261

Switching to port 587 fixed everything! Apparently my hosting provider was blocking low ports, which I guess kind of makes sense! 🙂

I have a similar situation.
It's 100% not the server. I have changed smpt-servers several times. Mail still doesn't work.

Hi, you should maybe check your server mail error log.
Also be sure on your hosting provider the port 25 and all necessary port for email sending are opened.
SMTP over SSL port 465 over TLS 587

For almost sure the issue you are facing is not from Flarum itself if you set SMTP authentication correctly.

I have everything set up 100%.
dkim, dmarc, mx records. Everything has been tested several times. Necessary ports are open.
SMTP is not working!

I had to choose the “mail” driver. So the letters come to the mail, but they go to spam.

loopza I had this issue before, and it took me a month to resolve. I thought you might be experiencing the same problem.

Are you using Cloudflare or another CDN? My issue was resolved when I disabled the proxy in Cloudflare. This might help you too.
