Firstly, congratulations on Flarum, I'm very impressed. I wish you all the best on your continued success.

I've a question though; why is there no 'First Name' or simply 'Name' field amongst our options? I appreciate the purpose of mentions, with @username, but every forum surely has a name feature. Maybe there's a purpose to this, I don't know, but I'd be grateful if someone could explaining it to me.

Also, the 'Edit' button on Profile does't work (doesn't lead to anything, or open anything).

The edit allows you to modify your tagline. In my case, that is not clearly visible (it might be happening to you too) as my black background doesn't make the text field visible enough. Something else for @Toby to note.

Rage If you are referring to a custom profile field for First/Last name or any other custom field names, I think this would be more suited to a plugin. Most forum software has a key identifier (username, email, etc) and the other fields for identification are custom text fields.

alexfox, that is not accurate. The button works for me, I can edit my tagline when I use it.

Berlyn I'm mostly referring to a users 'Display Name', which is usually a default feature; having the option to replace your 'username', with a preferred name within the forum, not the username as a whole itself, if that makes sense? Obviously Flarum momentarily is relatively young, but given the likelihood there'll soon be new members with names similar to already registered users, it doesn't look very pleasing to the eye if someone's username is shown on the discussion post as 'James123' because 'James' is already taken. With this general feature, they'll be able to have it as just 'James' within the discussion posts etc. Of course, someone could potentially add their surname within the username to differentiate (we can't all have the same username, obviously), but they may not want it a part of their 'Display Name' and this allows you to do so.

Rage Or to be able to have non-legal characters in their name. Symbols and such. Like if you're running a clan and you want your name to match your player tag in game. You might want: =ClanName= Rage as your Display name.

Auk that's a god awful thing to do but I was once a part of a gaming community that ran off vbulletin where the tag was automatically added and prefixed to the username.

Although when I first joined we had to do it all manually when registering. Anyway I, a separate Display Name from the username would be nice. That way I could change my username whenever I want and all posts associated with my Username/Account will display whatever updated name I choose.

Much like social media/networks. I'm not against it.

rahul Yes. We like to keep the community neat.
It is also a good practice to keep all the same discussions in the same thread (This methoad helps us easily track issues/problem/feedback/suggestions) - Not unless there is other underlying issue(s), then we will move that topic to a new one.
