            Hello. I've been taking a look around whether I should spin up a flarum forum for a niche regarding writers.

            But since I don't have the budget and am just experimenting since I don't have experience running a forum, I decided to try out free flarum. 😀 since I also dont expect to attract 250+ simultaneous users all at once. 😅

            Now from what I understand going through the FAQ and other various things to read, can I use my own custom domain when registering through a flarum.cloud subdomain? For the first time, signing up on the site?

            Also, I can see that flarum itself has reached release version 1.0 recently... will free flarum follow? 😅

            also one more question, if I outgrow the free flarum activity limits, how easy would it be to move my site to a VPS?

              You can setup FreeFlarum to use your own subdomain right after you create your forum, from the settings (https://freeflarum.com/settings)

              Of course, when most extensions update and when we finish the FreeFlarum rebase procees 👀. We're aware of the updates, and will upgrade all forums ASAP.

              As easy as downloading your database and avatars, then importing it to your forum. Optionally, you can also install FreeFlarum's extensions as well. I plan to provide a simpler and better documentation after the rebase, but more on that later

                          aaronlbpeterman Unfortunately FreeFlarum won't be able to pull this version until they are able to upgrade to Flarum 1.0.

                          I'm sure it won't be long, more and more extensions are becoming 1.0 ready every day 🙂

                              We'd like to update as soon as most extensions are compatible, and when we finish the rebase. Shouldn't be too long, and I expect us to update before the summer, e. g.: July, or one week after that. Until then, all you can do is wait :/

                              Also, I'd like to drop a quick note that we've increased the rate limit before 429 appears to allow more requests to be made in a short time for all forums. So, if you are a fast person and you navigate through your forum with haste, you are now less likely to be thrown away with a 429 error

                                can I clarify about the limits of free flarum? 😅 according to the Terms and conditions, does this mean 250 users online at the same time? 🤔

                                so let's say for example 600 users registor on my sub forum, but only 190+ people are online on average at the same time, at any given time... do I or do the users get any penalty? or is this within the safe limits?

                                      AA-Admiral 250 is the soft limit for all the registered users, the real limit for active ones is unknown as we didn't do any stress-testing and we don't have tools to test that.

                                      I except that FreeFlarum could handle at around 50 online users at the same time, however this lowers with forum count (if 1000 forums all have 50 users online at same time, then we can't expect much from that - on the other hand, if all forums would have inactive users, then one forum could have even 100 users online).

                                      Also, I think that the limit for registered users is way above 250, since they're just a data in database if they don't request anything. I assume that the 250 limit expects like 20 % of the users to be online concurrently, that makes 50 users at the same time. Hope that makes sense to you. I would also like to note that the limit wasn't calculated by me, and @Sanguine could provide you more info on that.
