Is there an easy way to export some key metrics, like number of visits or number of users?

orschiro no. But I imagine that would be possible either via a Flarum extension or by using some third party analytics service. FreeFlarum currently shows the user and post count at the forum overview in settings (https://freeflarum.com/settings/overview), but there's no way to export that and I have no plan to implement such feature into FreeFlarum.

And now for a small update. Over the past few months, I've been mentioning that I will rebase FreeFlarum (again). I've made this decision because I think that most of my work committed towards the previous update wasn't perfect enough, and things could be better now that I am far more experienced with FreeFlarum's internal workings, Python and Flarum in general.

In order to make sure that this update is as bug free as possible and that it won't break anything, I've made an open beta/development website for everyone to test the new setup: https://freeflarum.dev.

A few things that you should know before you jump in:

It's a development server. This means that some things might be incomplete, in progress or broken. If you encounter any errors or something is just not working as intended, please let me know so that I may fix the issue before I push it to production.
Do not use this for serious forums - your forum may be deleted at any time, without any warning. Assume that this is a testing environment that can be reset at any time. You've been warned.
Do not worry about messing stuff up - the server is hosted separately, and won't affect the main FreeFlarum one (https://freeflarum.com). This also means that you can't log in with existing credentials, because they're separated.
Feedback, suggestions or feature requests are welcome - just let me know your thoughts!

Known bugs/unfinished features (at FreeFlarum.dev, not Flarum related):

Login/settings page is not complete
Authentication should mostly work as intended, but it still needs some work
Welcome E-mails look ugly
[...]

I will post the full changelog, feature overview and explanation once the update rolls out (that might happen near the end of August, maybe sooner if things go well). A lot of things have changed under the hood, and a lot more probably will, so it's useless to post a changelog at the moment. For now, have a look around, test things, break things... and then report these broken things. It will help me a lot, so thank you for that!

Also, I will be updating all forums to Flarum v1.4.0 at Monday (tomorrow), as was promised and announced at Twitter and Discuss earlier, so expect some downtime. I'll keep you posted.

All forums are being rsynced now. Occasionally, you might see the "Enter database password" prompt between page loads. I assume that's because some forums are still using the old Flarum files and non-migrated databases, which confuses Flarum. There's not much that I can do in order to fix this, we'll just have to wait. There are currently ~1 700 active FreeFlarum forums, and rsync is at ~400th forum. So things should be good in ± 3 hours(?). I apologize for the downtime, hopefully things will return to normal soon

The situation seems to be better now that majority of the forums have been rsynced. I will edit this post once all forums are rsynced. After that, if you spot any more prompts for Flarum upgrade, please let me know.

Edit: All forums are synchronized now. As a result, all FreeFlarum forums have been updated to Flarum v1.4.0! I've also re-added the SSO extension, as was requested via E-mail.

If you are still experiencing issues, please tell me and I'll have a look at it. Thank you for being patient & enjoy the new features!

I re enabled it and it seems to work fine. But wanted to check you didn't disable night mode because it caused server problems?

Fury_Craft your forum was marked as "offline" in our database. Have you maybe reactivated it? That's what prevented it from being rsynced.

Anyways, I've fixed that, and rsynced it for you, so it should be back online.

DavecUK yes, I removed it because I though that it was causing issues after I saw some warnings possibly related to it in PHP log. This somehow disabled the extension on forums (I assume that Flarum now also disables the extensions in settings from database side, after you uninstall them). Turns out that it was nothing serious, so I re-added it afterwards (the problem was that forums weren't rsynced in the end, as you might already know).

Yes, but that was just a time and fixup issue, easily resolved. In fact I've found it's better to wait for most of the server side work on all the forums to complete, before adding additional loads by fixups etc.. In fact I say to my users, just wait a few hours before you try and use the forum again. Certainly runs very snappy now it's upgraded, almost instant responses.

It makes me wonder if it's actually worth shutting down all external server access to forums until all databases have completed, it might well be faster that way? A simple message of forums being updated would suffice to inform users.

P.S. As for disabling extensions, I've a suspicion think certain ones need purging before disabling as well

Currently, there's no system to automatically do that for every forum. When the new update rolls out for FreeFlarum, all forums will be instantly turned into a maintenance mode (in Flarum config), so that everything goes smoothly during major upgrades.

It could be possible to rollback migrations for every forum for that extension. But I am not sure whether that would actually be needed. Should the extension be re-added in the future, forum owners will need to re-configure it (although that doesn't to be too big of a hassle). So, I could create a script that rolls back the migrations when it's needed, not on every uninstall - a nice compromise, I think
