clarkwinkelmann I can't say if it is specific to FreeFlarum or if it's an issue of Flarum. Because I'm only a user, I can't see logs and therefore I don't know. If I need to guess after my short time digging I think the likely cause is Flarum itself or a plugin. But to assist in troubleshooting I will redirect the mail to FreeFlarum. I think @SKevo will then also be able to assist whit the corresponding logfiles if it should be an issue with Flarum.

Hello,

I just discovered FreeFlarum.

I would like to create my own forum and after having well informed myself, Flarum is the one which seems to me the best. A compatible SSH server + domain name is a significant cost .... Not to mention the installation which can be complex for a beginner like me.

So I would like to know if FleeForum has any limits? Mods ? Number of members ? Number of messages ? Number of topics ? Etc.... And I would like to know if we can put a personalized domain name?

IMHO, if you'd like to get started with Flarum (maybe test it) or create a small to medium sized community (e. g.: under approx. 1 000 users), then FreeFlarum might seem like a good choice for you. You can download the full data of your forum and move it elsewhere at anytime (preserving all users, discussions, posts, settings, assets, etc...). So, you don't have to worry about being "locked out" or something like that. But, if you'd like to get started with your own server right away, then that's fine too

Also, the problem with emails not being deliverable to info@freeflarum.com should be fixed now. Apologies to everyone who was trying to contact me in the recent days. If that's the case, then please resend your emails (if your mail server doesn't do that automatically)

Every 6 months (or when required), I run a script that clears inactive and too active forums. So, the limit is not really enforced (this means, if your forum hits the limits, it will still function normally). If a forum is "inactive", FreeFlarum will archive it (forum owner can reach out to me and I will reactivate it for him - we keep archived copies for 6 more months, if storage space allows it). In the case of "too active" forums ("forums that have more than 20 000 offline users, 20 000 discussions or 35 000 posts"), I will reach out to forum owners personally via their admin account's E-mail address and ask them to migrate elsewhere.

To be honest, the "Fair Use Policy" is more of an "be lenient with the server resources usage, so that I can afford the hosting and others can host their forums for free" type of thing, it is not something that is enforced entirely at the moment.

_S_1_M_0_N_ the exact logic is described in more detail in these posts: SKevo, SKevo, and also in the documentation.

Note that since then, the logic might've changed a bit, but I referenced the posts anyways so you can understand the mechanism better. But the current logic is: if admin account was last seen before 2 months, the forum is inactive.

However, this logic will be changed again - I am considering to just keep it simple, such as "if less than 2 posts, it is unused" in the future, as the current system is not very reliable in some edge cases (for example, admins not using the main admin account - which is discouraged, but well, it happens)

If you have more than 35 000 posts, then it will already be "too active", yes. Only one of the conditions is required for it to be considered "too active".

For completeness, here's how FreeFlarum currently determines forum activity (taken from FreeFlarum's closed source code), if that helps:

Wlork the Pusher extension integrates the cloud service of the same name with Flarum. You need to register and create an app at https://pusher.com/ where you will receive your credentials. That company is not affiliated with Flarum or FreeFlarum, they just offer realtime services for developers. The Flarum team maintains an extension that's compatible with that service.

Pusher is a paid service but a free tier is available that should be enough for most small forums.
