Henry Which one exactly? I checked the one on google.com assuming it was a gif using very safe colors to pull that size off, but it seems that one is 13.2KB.
They say so.
...including building a special variant of our full-color logo that is only 305 bytes, compared to our existing logo at ~14,000 bytes [sic].
They're probably talking about the svg version.
But they are currently serving the png version, which, as you said, is 13.2kb. While Google hasn't released the optimized 305 byte logo yet, I can only guess that it will be rolled out pretty soon. Someone came up with an svg that looks pretty close to the real thing. It's about 490 bytes. So yeah, 305 bytes is possible.
Henry ...but man I bet that saved them a LOT of bandwidth.
Obviously. A LOT, LOT. 🙂
