Use different icon for "editable" and "has been edited"

Dominion I agree. NodeBB has a similar icon once something is edited, the only difference is that there is a clear distinction on where to find the edit tool, etc., and the "three dots" are always visible. I would propose that for Flarum, making the Report, Edit, etc. "three dots" always visible.

While on the UI topic, I think there is too much blank space at the bottom of each comment. It could use some trimming.

Aha! Yes, the fact that the three dots aren't always visible would make the grey pencil look like the real edit button.

I don't know how @Toby will feel about making the three dots always visible, though.

You were correct on this. I would rather see the "Reply" and "Like" links all the time, than having a blank space for no apparent reason. I assume it will be possible to copy the current theme, and modify it to change that behavior, right @Toby?

The separating line between posts could be separate from the post so that it doesn't oscillate with the post content when MouseOver a replied-to icon. And the xxx replied to this could make the reply oscillate, for the sake of being consequent.

Toby apologies, I did something that I completely hate, I got dragged away from the main thread.

I truly believe that is the edit "menu" (that is, the three dots) is made visible at all time, it will drastically reduce the potential confusion when one topic/comment is edited. What sestir recommends would make it more confusing, as it is not obvious the entry was edited right off the bat.

an alternative i've seen is no edit icon when the text has been edit, but a text instead like:

2 minutes ago and edited 1 minute ago

how's that.. no confusion about icons and actions

I disagree. I think it would only be an issue if the icon changed your cursor to cursor:pointer upon hovering, but it doesn't. It's fine

Fastidious OTOH de-emphasizing the edited state and only showing the three dots on hover helps the actual discussion to take focus. I don't usually care whether something's been edited unless there's some glaring inconsistency in the conversation. I would even auto-hide the right sidebar navigation when not scrolling because the only thing I really want to see while I'm reading is the discussion.

Setting apart content from controls by a consistent 1 or 2 degrees of action seems like quite a healthy paradigm.

If three dots on #444444, or #666666 takes focus away, we need to go a month or two to Tibet, and meditate. Haha! In all seriousness, I know what you mean, but with so much blank space everywhere, I do not think the two things I mentioned will make that much of an impact.
