Hello, I am very happy to see that Flarum has been developed so far. I started using Flarum in August last year. I have been using a pain point so far. The attachment upload function has not been very useful, such as Alibaba Cloud oss support. It has not been very friendly, the attachment function is one of the basic functions of the forum, I hope to wait until the day of the update.

Is there another topic where Luceos writes some updates on work on next Flarum version and other stuff? Because haven't seen it for some time🙂

Staszek Yeah an update from my end is missing these past few days.

I haven't been much involved in the development lately. What I did;

Further completed automation for flarum-lang; the future official translations of Flarum. A few translators have already been invited and are actively working with the new system.
Readied discuss for using redis based queues, allowing people to now follow tags. There might still be some issues with it, I hope to hear about them if you notice anything odd. Visit a tag (eg blog) and press follow (or lurk for updates on everything).
Started work on the bylaws of the foundation.
Reviewed the IP transfer agreement from Toby.
Looked at options on how to get some of our developers to work a fixed amount of hours for pay in 2020.

I must have done a lot of smaller things, especially related to the organisation. But I can't really remember right now 🤦

I just disabled follow tags because we reached our email service account limit and account activation mails weren't being sent. I'm on a hunt for a solution.

luceos What about install Postfix as SMTP email sender only and limits gone. But it will require some time configuring the stuff to not fall into the spam folder 🤣

luceos An on but off topic thought and rhetorical question. Why does the Internet make running a website so hard? One day, hopefully, even the most basic servers / web hosting will be able to handle high volumes of emails. I hope.

Zeokat Personally I use Mailcow for general emailing and Postal for distribution emails and emails that programs need to send. Makes life super easy plus if I do need to receive email for an application (help desk for example) I can just setup a web hook. Postal is basically send grid but self hosted.

tankerkiller125 when self-hosting it's very hard to get a good email reputation though (especially with Flarum that doesn't have HTML emails or unsubscribe links)

At the risk of going off-topic... Is that really a problem people have? That would suck. None of my services send emails with either one - I consider them both to be a mark of spam/unwanted emails, actually! But most of my spam rejections went away when I set up my SPF and DMARC properly.

NFG I know it's a delicate activity and if you mess up and get blacklisted it's sometimes almost impossible to be removed from a blacklist. Some mail providers like Outlook are quite aggressive with spam filters. One thing that Postmark recommends is to "warm up" an IP address when you start sending emails, so that you don't exceed mail providers limits and get immediately blacklisted. Postmark doesn't actually recommend using a dedicated IP address even with their own service, because they see that deliverability is better when you use a shared IP address that has constructed a good reputation over the years.

Glad to hear that everything's working fine in your case though 🙂 I was just pointing out that there are a lot of things to take care of when you want to send email on your own. And if you don't get them right from the start, you might need to start from scratch at some point, even by changing the domain...

SES don't always accept to relay emails, for my motorcycle forum they refused, I've been forced to use the smtp of OVH, it seems to work with a pretty good reputation of 7/10 I'll see if I must consider using a DKIM but if it works like this...

Yes, I totally agree. The opencollective support which is going to directly support Flarum's development is the way it should be.

Oh I just signed up for Amazon SES to try this for the forum emails. They have not unsanboxed my account yet. Did they refuse you because you have a very gigantic community? Or because there is no unsubscribe link at the end of each email Flarum sends? It will be very important to know the reason why they refused so that Flarum can fix it if that is possible.

Is anyone else successfully using the Amazon SES service in Flarum -> Email -> Choose a Driver -> SES? Sorry if this is off-topic but I asked here since it was being discussed. SES is the cheapest of them all with 10k emails just for $1 and some 68k free emails a month. So hope Flarum can fix its issues and make it play well with Amazon SES. Mandrill is $20 for 25k emails plus a $9/month MailChimp subscription. And Mailgun is totally unaffordable.
