Nitro Porter, the inter-software migration toolkit

wbntff I've never heard of this one. Can you get it into any other software? PHPBB is the one that sometimes folks have made a migration tool for, especially if it's that old.

Alternatively, I can add support for it in Porter if you wanna send me the database dump. Since it's so old, I would stick to the very basics: Users, Categories, Discussion & Comments.

linc I have tried existing converters with SMF and phpBB but all have errors as they were written for old versions.
yes.. basic stuff like users, categories, discussions and posts would be enough.
Just need it for reading purpose as archive. May revive it if members are interested.
Last time we used it was in 2009.

Hi,
did you happen to look at that SQL file.
I could run it with XMB 1.19.12 but it generates errors as its written for older versions of php and in future may not work at all.
Recently i tried converting it again to SMF 2.0.0 with older converter.
It does convert members and topics but stops midway at 5600 posts, where as total posts are 26000+
There was nothing much i could do to proceed further as nobody at SMF supports this converter anymore.

phpBB converts from SMF (that too 1.1), not from XMB

@linc We have a pretty large forum on Invision 4 and heavily utilize the Downloads module. I plan to pay a bounty for an extension to be made once we decide to move forward with this decision, but I'm curious if you'd be able to also work with us on getting those moved over too? We are trying to plan ahead of Invisions price increase and other questionable decisions, but aren't finding any alternatives without commissioning some help like this.

Circa I think that's a reasonable extension to the Porter. Whenever possible, I like to support data even if it's from a plugin/extension if the extension is publicly available & widely used and the data is valuable.

I cannot promise I would be personally available to do this enhancement on a timeline you'd find useful, however.

Well, I know the extension and have already tried it, unfortunately error messages came again and again, so I would like to try the tool from Linc and see if the same problems occur ;D

So, I tried the Nitro-Porter tool, but I'm not sure if I did everything right. When I started the whole thing in the browser, there was a white page. I didn't find any log files either. Therefore, I can not say what went wrong.

Hello,

I am looking to use nitro booster to convert my forum from an old IP to flarum, yay!

Now because I wish to stay on cPanel, I have found in the past that it’s quicker to download the database, do the upgrades on the database then upload again.

Would this work for flarum? Can I upgrade offline and then renable?

Would love to run my own box but it just seems such a nightmare to setup and secure!

Jbugy I don't know anything about using Nitro Porter, but I don't see any reason why you couldn't run it on a local copy of your forum as long as you have access to all the tools locally (PHP, Composer, etc.)

Whenever you work on a copy of your forum offline for development, testing or migration, you don't have to make it accessible over the internet so there's very little to configure in term of security since you are already working behind your private network firewall. To get PHP and a webserver on a regular PC for development there are many tools like XAMPP that makes this process easy.

The only potential issue I can see is if some tool automatically reads and stores the currently used domain name, which would likely be localhost when working locally. Even if the wrong URL ends up in the database, it's often very similar to when you would move from a domain name to another. You can perform a few search and replace in the database to fix it after you identify which tables/columns are impacted, or do the search and replace on the SQL dump itself afterwards.

I can’t get this to run. It says to dump to web root (so that’s public-html right?) and edit the config.

I then get errors when installing via web browser with bootstrap saying it’s missing Porter\Config but there isn’t even a folder called porter

If I try using CLI it tells me that there is nothing to install

So after much copy and pasting it started via the web (still no luck via cli) but then immediately failed on unable to connect to database for the flarum side after selecting the drop downs required. Given this is a perfect connection to the already installed flarum I am not sure what’s going on?

I am using sdebacker/vanilla_to_flarum

And I have a problem: When It imports the posts, it seems like raw code.

The editor of vanilla Forums interprets that code but flarum not.

You tool solve this problem?

At Vanilla I use Rich2 editor.

Which post formatting type are you using? It should work for the Rich Editor, but I am still working out issues with the older wysiwyg formatter. It mostly works right now.

I think you are getting the main branch version instead of the current release.

Try composer require linc/nitro-porter/package:3.3.0 instead to grab the stable release.

Or, download the already-built release from GitHub to sidestep Composer entirely. The zip file on this page: linc/nitro-porterreleases/tag/v3.3.0

I'm currently removing the web client from Porter (to make it CLI-only) which is what that error likely is about.

But now I have another error :/

I have cloned vanilla database and a new flarum installation dabatase.

I set config.php at nitroporter and I get this:

Fatal error: Uncaught InvalidArgumentException: Database connection [flarum] not configured.[...]

What can happend?
