Pandry the question is if flarum is able to determine language. Like does it know that the language pack English is actually English..? do you get me?

arajdon no, it trusts that language set to en-** is English. Same for any of them.

Hi, I am building a beta forum for sports lovers in two languages. I could live with both lang in the same forum IF i could translate the categories and links ( so I would avoid having two separate forums with two diff members list when I know that most speaks both lang). For now i'll separate them and merge them later if I get into a kind of php_e ( txt to translate) and .po files like WP

Why not try with using tags?
Probably, a script that would sort by tags can be made, so if user choose english, it will show discussions with english tag, etc.

Maybe, google translate plugin will do than?
Search in google for that, complete a setup process and than paste a code in custom header.

Invisionpower has pritty good with multilingual feature, today all platform or software, all apps should be done thinking in english speakers, spanish speakers, chinese speakers.....and others...expansion...

Ok, after a while I'm back...
I thought a lot about how to overcome to my issue and I believe I found a solution.
I would use 2 (or more) flarum instances.
Both will use 2 different databases, but I would love to share the users between the databases...
I think I'll write a plugin or something, since so far I'm liking flarum the most (compared to solutions like Discourse, NodeBB and others ones).
Otherwhise I'll make a forum software on my one (even if I don't like the idea...)

Personally I would prefer single database rather than sharing users between databases so my preferred approach will be multi flarum forum with single database. With it content based on language can be separated via different tag. Just a thought though.

Don't think that 2 instances would do this.

In fact it would be "enough" to add in the database a column to the "first post" and assign it a language.

Then you just need to grab the users current language or his preferences, to filter all first posts according to the users setting.

I believe it's the easiest way if I need to write down a plugin.
(I did not see the Flarum plugin working system, so I might be wrong).
Anyway, I believe this could be a core-functionality to add.

I think it can be done with bbcode for example in the tilte and body we can use :

[FR]Salut je suis un article.[FR]
If we change the locale it will show just one langauge.

An approach like WordPress' one could be taken, adding a prefix to the tables, but I'm not a fan anymore of the tags...
I believe that 2 languages should require 2 different communities, but with a common userbase (so I can be Pandry on both of them).

No it will show just the language according to the locale used in the website.

If the Language is english it will show just
[EN]Hello I am a post.[/EN]

and if the user switch the language from the language switcher on the top of the forum it will show the other language content

for example
[FR]Salut je suis un article.[/FR]

But I think the best solution is : to use for each language a column in the table database..
so the users for each lang can use the contents of the lang that they are talking it

In my opinion, this is a TERRIBLE idea: a lot of columns wouldn't be used.

What if you have a lot of German users in your forum?
You should learn German or what?
And what would flarum be supposed to show in case none of the languages are present?

Since I don't know Flarum well enough yet, my suggestion is to tag an admin or a maintainer and ask his/her opinion...
But I'm not sure that a plugin can do what I would like to make it do
