  • Free Flarum hosting on an expert platform by FreeFlarum.com

On behalf of FreeFlarum, I would like to congratulate Chief Forum Officer and Flarum Whisperer @SKevo with his birthday. In the past two years he has improved the FreeFlarum code, built cool features and helped countless people getting their new forum running smoothly. He is an incredible asset to the Flarum community and I hope he will be for a long time to come. Kevo, thank you, you are awesome!

Happy Birthday @SKevo !

Thank you so much for all your hard work, the Flarum ecosystem wouldn't have been the same without you 😍

Thank you everyone for the kind wishes! I do not plan to stop anytime soon, and hopefully we can keep on improving and building the ecosystem together for a long time!

As for support requests, I apologize for not addressing them (yet). I am currently in another country, but will get home by weekend. Don't worry, I will eventually check it all and respond to what needs attention, so please, bear with me!

Hiya! I just heard of freeflarum today, and it's wonderfull!

I was just wondering, because I couldn't find out how to do it; How could I give administrator permissions to other people?

EndoThePro go to the admin area - users tab and click edit on the specific user or go to the user profile on the forum itself and click edit. The admin permission group is listed there, so that you can enable it.

Hey there, it's me again 😅
I've noticed that when using the FontAwesome icons, as instructed, i'm unable to use some of them. For example, if I try to use the "hand-wave" icon it doesn't work, but if I try another one like "hand-holding-heart" it does work. I also tried using "user-gear" and it didn't work, but "user-cog" did work.
I was wondering if it was just me or it happens regularly and if there's a way to fix the problem if it is one. 😃

EndoThePro hand-wave seems to be a pro icon, but user-gear should work. If Flarum uses FA 5, it can be a problem (although I think that Flarum upgraded to 6 recently, however I am not sure)

SKevo I think that the issue is that Flarum uses FA 5 since everytime I check an icon it sais FA 6 so that must be it probably.

orschiro yes, you may request it at our GitHub and we'll have a look at it. If you don't have a GitHub account, I can create the issue for you so that we stay organized and won't forget about it

              4 days later

              Hey everyone!

A quick announcement: we are going to migrate all forums to another server tomorrow Friday 10th June at around 10:00 - 11:00 UTC.

Please expect that all forums will be unavailable for the next ~6 hours (after the migration starts). We will announce some details about this in the near future. Thank you for your patience!

Hello! Will there be a collective warning message, to warn the forum will be offline for a few hours? (I ask because it is possible that an all mailing-list receive the link to my forum tomorrow – I don't choose the date).

TB54 we can put a warning text in the header of every forum, so that your existing users will be aware of the migration.

It could also be possible to render a custom error page when a forum is accessed during the migration (from Nginx). I will probably implement both options before migration starts, to prevent confusion

Thanks! I just realized I can also redirect the forum domain to a temporary page on my ftp, but your solution could also help others.

SKevo Well, for a reason I can't understand, the redirection i tried towards a personalized maintenance page doesn't seem to work; therefore a custom warning/"maintenance" page from you side during the transfer will definitely save my day. Thanks again!

Sorry again @SKevo, I wanted to ask you a question :
How can I enlarge the logo of my forum with css?!

Thx for this message! Wish you a good time to migrate 🙂

The migration is almost finished - most forums should now be back online and fully operational. However, E-mail sending seems to not yet work. Please, be patient while we resolve this last bit. I'll do one more announcement as soon as FreeFlarum becomes fully operational again.

                      Edit: E-mail sending works!

However, if you spot anything out-of-ordinary, please let us know ASAP! Thank you

                        SKevo
Hello sorry again, is that I am not expert, since I just created my forum I do not know how to make it appear in the Google results

Bidibobidibu you have to improve your forum's page rank by improving its SEO.

Search Engine Optimalization (SEO) is a process during which you focus on improving your page's visibility in search results. The way Google (and most big search engines) work is that they take into consideration various factors of your website, such as the quality of the content, number of visitors, popularity, and SEO tags. SEO tags are a collection of predefined rules that you can define in order to get a better rank (for example, you can set a description for your forum in order to get a higher page rank). The higher your page rank, the higher you appear in search results. Normally, these tags are set by Flarum or its extensions automatically, but sometimes your manual intervention is required.

Setting up all of this and getting a good page rank can be a long process, especially if you are completely new to this topic. I've made some very basic introduction to the world of SEO for you, but I'd strongly recommend you to Google about SEO and learn, since I don't consider myself to know much about this topic either.

And as for Flarum, there are numerous discussions regarding this topic. You can browse through some of them - Flarum's SEO might not be perfect at the moment, but it's getting there. The developers are now focusing their radars on improving it in the next couple of updates, so I expect Flarum forums to be ranked higher more easily in the near future.

What you can do now is enable the SEO extension. It is an amazing extension that will guide you through the process of setting up everything that's necessary for a better SEO of your Flarum forum. Other than this, I also recommend you to submit your forum to Google's search console, which helps you a lot.

SKevo Hi there, awesome work! I can't seem to open my forum anymore. I'm getting a HTTP ERROR 500, I tried to fix it (twice) but still nog forum.

Just have patients of is there something wrong?

I'm having issues with FoF Upload after the upgrade, cannot upload images to imgur or s3. txt files work fine.

my users complain about the messenger. as soon as you write and send a message you get this message:
oops! Something went wrong there. Please reload the page or try again.

reven I'm having issues with FoF Upload after the upgrade, cannot upload images to imgur or s3. txt files work fine.

We can't upload anymore - no matter what format. neither image nor txt nor anything else

TeamF however, we have massive problems. The page doesn't load, when you send the posts, there are various messages and other things. Mentioning the user is no longer possible.

same here and we are a very small community 🙁
but hey! thx @SKevo for anything you do in your spare time... hope it will work in future

Equinemarkt TeamF reven tom23 I apologize for the inconvenience. I have increased the PHP memory limit - this should fix all of the above-mentioned issues.

However if your forum is still having issues, please let us know (and don't forget to include your forum name, so that we can have a closer look)
