Welcome to our newest community update. As some time has passed since the last community update we want to give you an update on different things that happened or are happening in the future. In Edition 6 of our community updates 2023 we featured a overview about whats happening next with Flarum. Feel free to skip back to this post in case you are interested. But now lets move on to our newest update.
🔌 What's happening with APIs of big services?
Recently we have been witness to changes on different platforms like Twitter or Reddit changing the APIs to a paid / premium model. This is slowly killing third-party apps as they could only continue their service with costs that would make it unattractive. Here is an example of what is happening with Apollo for Reddit:
It's a pity that big platforms choose to become less inclusive. But it also shows why it's so important to allow alternatives to exist. Flarum is offering an OpenSource possibility to create an inclusive community with an extensive API allowing extensibility and access as desired. Also, with the upcoming version 2.0 Federation will find its way into the Flarum ecosystem. This will be another big step in offering an alternative solution if big platforms close their doors. 🌍️ Translating Flarum
Recently we have been very active in adding new languages to the Flarum Language Project. About 80 languages, including the most used ones, can be translated on our Weblate platform. You don't need much to add your own translations - register on Weblate and start adding translations yourself!
